Farmers Market FAQ
Why should I shop local when I can?
Across the nation, farmers receive only 14.9 cents per food dollar spent. At Jonesborough Farmers Market, vendors receive all the money you spend with them, including 100% of the tokens you redeem with them - minus a minimal daily fee. Vendor fees cover a portion of our expenses like staff time, equipment costs, and marketing. The rest is covered by our sponsors, donors, and grants. More of your money goes to your neighbors and stimulates the local economy, with 68% of every dollar spent with small businesses like our vendors goes to the local economy compared to 30-40% with a national chain.
What payment methods are accepted?
Each vendor accepts cash and eligible Incentive Program tokens. Some accept debit/credit cards. As a service to our vendors that do not accept electronic payments, we ‘sell’ $5 credit tokens at the Information Booth. You can use your card with us to receive tokens that represent cash in $5 increments to be used with any vendor on any item. Change will be given by the vendor if needed. There is no fee for the customer or vendor to use this system. We also accept SNAP-EBT cards at the Information Booth and give you tokens to use on eligible items with the vendors.
Where can I park?
There is parallel parking available on S. Cherokee Street, parking along East Courthouse Square by Texas Burritos & More, a large lot behind the Courthouse Square, and a parking lot across from Tennessee Hills Distillery past the railroad tracks. If parking in the lot across the railroad tracks, there is a staircase down to the lower parking lot. If there is another event in town that limits parking, please refer to the Town of Jonesborough’s parking map.
Is there live music at the market?
Yes! Almost every Saturday, beginning at 9 am.
Can I bring my dog to the Farmers Market?
Yes! We are a dog friendly market and in order to allow dogs everyone must follow good manners. We ask that you have respect for our farmers and the space they create to display and sell the products they work hard to produce.
Keep dogs on a short leash.
Remove your dog from the farmers market area if it starts having an altercation with another dog or is too rowdy. If an issue is identified and you do not remove your dog from the area immediately, the market manager will ask you to do so.
Don’t allow dogs to hike their leg and mark any structure or item on market property. If your dog makes a mess, please inform staff/volunteers at the information booth
Do not assume everyone is comfortable around your dog; respect other’s space.
Remember, the market is a food distribution area with many people. Please good manner and cleanliness. Thank you for your cooperation.
